The Beginning: A Pioneering Spirit (1958). In 1958, Emmett and Alice Koelsch, our visionary grandparents, embarked on a. Journey that would lay the foundation for our family’s deep-rooted commitment to senior care. As a big step of faith and with great courage they established their first nursing home. The Monticello Hall, in Kelso, Washington. Their pioneering spirit continued as their dedicating led to the creation of their next venture, the Delaware Plaza in 1971, the first assisted living community in the Pacific Northwest. This groundbreaking achievement set a new standard in senior housing, reflecting their unwavering passion for quality care.

Nantucket Antiques: A Love for Treasures (1981) In 1981, Melissa’’s mom, Nancy, opened Nantucket Antiques, initially starting from her home before establishing a brick-and-mortar shop. Little did we know the significant influence this experience would have on the future of what makes Field’s Senior Living special. This milestone not only showcased her passion for antiques but also spurred on Melissa’s design philosophy. Melissa continues to incorporate her personal collection of antiques into the decor of our communities, adding a unique and warm touch that resonates with our family’s heritage.

A Legacy Continued: The Second Generation (1989) The torch of dedication was passed to our parents, Dr. Larry Bunn and Nancy Bunn Munro. With a shared vision of excellence, they developed and designed The Weatherly Inn, the first Assisted Living Community in Tacoma, WA in 1989. Dr. Larry Bunn’s innovative approach and Nancy Bunn Munro’s creative design transformed their communities in the Puget Sound area into benchmarks of quality and comfort in the senior housing industry.

Fields Senior Living: The Third Generation Continues. In 1996, Dustin and Melissa married and officially begin their journey together. Dustin was offered his first job in the family’s senior communities in 1997, where he gained comprehensive experience in every department. This hands-on approach and broad exposure to all facets of the business laid a solid foundation for their future endeavors.

Melissa also earned her stripes with gained experience in 1998, at just 24 years old, she was invited to be a part of the design team, helping to decorate her parent’s second community, cultivating the beginnings of her keen passion for design.

Marked by a deep sense of calling and with their combined passions, Dustin and Melissa launched Field’s Senior Living in 2015, establishing their own path in senior living. The felt a profound responsibility to carry forward the legacy of compassionate care instilled in them by their family. Their journey was characterized by prayer, determination and a miraculous start that saw them building their business from the ground up, while standing on the shoulders of those who came before them.

Expanding Horizons: Grown and Vision. Since launching Fields Senior Living, Dustin and Melissa have expanded their reach, opening new communities and renovating existing ones. In May 2019, they extended their operations to California with the Magnolia communities, followed by the opening of a sister property in 2020 – The Weatherly Court in Medford, OR, and another community in December 2021 – Smokey Point in Arlington, WA. Their latest venture, a new community in Spokane Valley, WA, opened in September 2023.
